PSI INFLATION

AIR PRESSURE
 
Reasons to check your air pressure.
 
  • Over a months time your tires will lose about 1 PSI (pounds per square i nch).
  • For every 10 degree Fahrenheit drop in temperature your tires will lose 1 PSI.
  • Low air pressure PSI in your tire(s) will create heat. Excessive heat results in
    increased tire wear and even tire damage.
 
Below are two infrared photos of the same type of tire tested at high speed.
Notice the heat build up on the tire driven on less tire pressure.

Note:   Tires run on low air pressure also lose their full load carrying capacity. A ten pound decrease
               in tire pressure can decrease the tires safe load capacity by over a thousand pounds!  
 
Check that air pressure!
 
Know Your Proper Air Pressure!
 
Tire Pressure Can Be Found On Your Car Door Jam Driver's Side
 
Your manufacturer will list its own recommended air pressure
settings in the doorjamb (usually driver side) of your vehicle.
 
Although most of these recommendations are correct sometimes manufacturers attempt to sacrifice lower air pressure settings for a more "cushy" ride. If the PSI recommendations from the manufacturer and the max. PSI stamp on the tire sidewall differ greatly check into it a little further.
 
Note:   Over-Inflation can cause tire radial separation and a possible blow out.

How To Properly Check Your Air Pressure
 
Check your air pressure on a monthly basis & always check your pressure "cold", before the
tires have been driven on. The heat of driving friction can cause inaccurate readings.
 
Removing The Cap
Remove Valve Cap
 
Place Tire Gauge Over Tire Valve
Place End Of Tire
Gauge Over Value
 
Hold Gauge Snugly Until Scale Pops Out
Press Tip of The Tire Gauge Snugly To The Valve Until The Scale Comes Out Of Tire Gauge
 
Add/Remove Air Recheck With Gauge
If Needed, Add or Remove Air & Recheck With Tire Gauge
 
Replace Cap
Replace Valve Cap
